I'm starting this blog because of the influence of the School of Journalism at UH-Manoa and my asian friends back in California who have had 'online journals' before they were called blogs.
I titled this blog "The Next Step" because I am in the process of getting out of school and finding a job. Whoever said college was the real world was mistaken because I know that I have definately been taken care of and sheltered these past four years.
I think I have been sheltered more so because I am also a scholarship athlete. More of a means of paying for school I was also enveloped in its benefits. It meant instant friends in a university 2,500 miles from my hometown, priority registration, guaranteed campus housing and a schedule of competitions that came right after assignments due. In the world of the college athlete, college life can be pretty cruise and sweet. Also you have access to computers and printers without having to pay 10 cents a copy. That gets pretty good when you're printing the PowerPoint notes for the speech class you missed yesterday.
Anyway, I'm starting this blog to keep track of my attempts to finding an internship in Journalism (so far two rejections) and what I am learning in my last year of college without the goal of going to grad school
Enjoy as it progresses!
